(not that they need it): Jay, the wow-some guy kickin' it on the mic. The mad machine, Damo on the awesome basss. Jedi Master Jay scratching holes in the vinyl on the decks. Hep givin' it his all on the guitar and a HUGE prop goes out to Scotty (R.I.P) who smashed the hell out of the drums before he sadly passed away.
As you stroll though this journey you will discover all the wonderful stories about this band, by reading it, and not by having to put up wih Saskia in real-life (all you hear is,"Did I just hear some1 say 28?", once you get her started she'll never stop) so yeah, now I have your attention please exit through the links marked with orange and you'll get one hell of a ride.-Sass, after the D.Y (Dee Why) gig, 8th April, 2001

As part of their Upstyle Down tour, this concert I went to with my friend Linda we had to drive 3 hours to get to Manly for the concert cos it was the closest under age gig. We, at age 14 went into the Corso where we bought film and stuff, we went into Hungary Jacks where we ate vegieburgers in honour of Jay (like I always do before a concert), Linda and I arn't a good mix to be sensible and mature young ladies as we go off and running around kicking each other for no reason at all, we released we were doing it in front of some roadies that usually help out 28 days concerts there in th North Shore, how embarrassing, well we got back to the center, and there were heaps more people there. At the door they were doing a body search sort of frisk, god it was soo embarrassing cos I had all this stuff i didn't even know i had in my pockets and bag, camera, wallet etc., so the lady is like "what’s this?" every five seconds. The roadies were taking their sweetass time to set the gear set up. Soon enough out came a band, they introduced them selves as the "Blood Idols" they were ok but hey you can't beat 28 DAYS, the bass player I think was over fifty and the singer sounded as if he did weddings. The moshpit didn’t start at all for this band but after a while every1 got over being shy and got bored so they started a bit of moshing going. moshing is cool! so when the band had their 15 mins of blasting our taste buds our of our ears with their bland music there was another long pause of live music and back to normal music as the roadies set up for the next band, this band was much cooler, their songs actually had rhythm and changed chords once in a while and they had the most sweet ass sexy bass player, this guy had cool blonde dred locks but after a while when he started to sweat they went all limp and just hanged. I made sure I got some pics of him. This band were called Superheist they were cool, sort of the offspring of a 28 Days band because they included the audience and I’m sure Linda’s next CD will be theirs. Linda and I made our way up to the front, just to look at this sexy bass player, he was hot! anyhoo they played their songs. It was funny how all the bands throughout the night asked about each other for example "so who thought blood idols were cool.... superheist are cool aren’t they.... who’s waiting up for 28 days?" Finally there was another long break, the time was 9:30 and another set up was taking place this time there were 2nd checks on everything and we know what that means...a pro band is about to take to the stage.(not that Superheist didn't have potential) There was this roadie who was checking out the bass guitar, playing the same chords over and over again, I recon he thought he was the next Damian, we were all shouting "we’ve herd that one before" Then we saw Jedi come onto our side of the stage, lye down and pull out a smoke with another bloke right in front of us. (it turned out to be "Danny".) So eventually the band came out and Linda and I managed to take the front of the audience and that’s where we stayed. Well the band introduced themselves and we found out that it was Jay’s (the singer) birthday, so we had to sing Happy Birthday, but according to jay, us "cunts" weren’t loud enough. Boy he had a dirty mouth, despite grabbing, holding or scratching himself and spitting golly’s everywhere between songs, he’s defiantly cool! But they got on with their first song, "The Bird", I remember that cause it is the first song on their album. These guys were even cooler, hotter and more fantastic on real-life. Damo (the bass player) was in front of us, he was sexy and he was looking at me and Linda yay!. hehe Scott (the drummer) I couldn’t see all that much but he’s cool. There was Hep (the guitarist) he was on the other side of the stage and there was Jedi (the DJ) he was so cool I thought his pants would drop off, he casually scratched on the decks while smoking a cigarette, totally ripin' it up while Danny was holding the turntables all night because they were on wheels. Well another break and Jay informed us that he was a proud Aussie and asked if there were any more proud Aussie’s out there ,so yeah he was a proud Aussie, cool! He (Jay) asked what song to play next and we all shouted out "SUCKER!" so that’s what they played. But it must have been hard, standing up sweating and singing sucker so he missed a few words, but like I was moshing, surrounded with wet boys singing every word. Next breather he admitted that he only watches Family Guy and The Footy Show so there, that’s what I’ll be watching for the next week. He also asked the audience who had a dog and asked one girl what her name was... she was shouting out "MY SISTER!" but he couldn’t hear, so he asked the security guard and he said "Josie" so the next song from their other album was dedicated to Josie and Jay’s dog, Katy. I have to get that other album.(now I know the song was was She's Waiting) Another rest and he was going to give us a demo of his new song, I was a bit suss since they just released an album, but hey "so this is our new song, if u like it tell us and if u don’t just shut up!" and then they started playing it and it turned out to be Rip It Up, sneaky, very sneaky. So then they only had 2 songs left and when they had finished they just left the stage. huh! so all of us were shouting "WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE "etc. so they came back on and said "so give us some 28 days respect" "28 days can..." "FUCK OFF" "28 days can..." "FUCK OFF" etc. "fine then we will" -haha funny. but they did play another song. so then all of a sudden it was over.

13 hours on the train up to byron...sound checks throught the night then excitement in the morning. This was the first Splendour In The Grass ever and a very good idea, nothing like breaking the cold and boring winter with a music festival set in Byron Bay. The first band in the "uber top" a GIANT circus tent that seemed like it was 100 meters wide and equal that high, was Sunk Loto, I saw these guys at Sobriety 5, they are cool, the guitarist was soo cute in his paul frank t. I got to meet them one time, stoned out as hell at a signing right before Sobriety. Anyway, next up were George, She's a sweet singer and everybody loved her.
Then were SUPERHEIST!!! these guys rock and are excellent at live shows i first got to know them at my first 28 Days concert, they were a support band and did very well, this time Drew(the bass player) had a 6 string, before it was a five, before that a four. next up were Magic Dirt then Something For Kate, their song, 3 dimensions is cool. After Something For Kate were Frenzal Rhomb, These guys are crazy, (Jay with the dreds, this time they were green) jumping off the stage only to not be able to get back up, They got the audience going. Lindsay was next to jump off the stage and gave us all(at the front) handshakes. While Steve Malkmus and the Jicks played next 28 DAYS set up...
Jedi was given(again) a large box ON WHEELS and this time he wasn't going to have someone hold it stable through the concert so "that roadie with the dreds" (who does most of their concerts) turned it on its side, very smart! 19:45 and on came 28 DAYS!!! their line-up was something like this:

Natalie, Laura and I set out down to the Central Coast for this memorable gig (and it just so happened to be one of Scotty's last i’m sorry to say (R.I.P))...luckily we brought along our "trusty" cassette recorder...ahem by the way is totally against the rules... but the recording ended up being our most pr\ide and joy along with the drumstick Scotty autographed and gave Laura at the end of the gig...btw she still has it

Oh, what i mean by “trusty” is: Standing at the front of the mosh pit, dodging crowd surfers flying overhead, holding the broken tape deck closed with dear life, the recording gets knocked around A BIT so not much i can do to restore the sheer gnarly sawn-off shotgun quality, but generally u get an idea of the atmosphere of the night, I don’t know why but the speed increases sporadically, if u listen hard u can tell we’re standing in front of damo’s side of the stage so it’s heavy on the bass, also u can actually feel the sound of bouncing around in the pit, my friends screams and our comments between sets...ahh to be 16 again lol.

CHEERS JEDI- This photo of Jedi and Bugdust's Adam was taken after the Cambridge Hotel gig on the 13th of November. I'm sure both were off guts and obviously taking up Hep's mission to: Hunt out some red wine from the bar, and whom later on was seen grasping one-handed a beer bottle and a half drunk red wine glass between his fingers. nice combo...someone's gonna be sick in the morning not! He's KID INDESTRUCTIBLE.
